The Society for Bangladesh Agricultural Extension Network (BAEN) recently organized a survey among Extension and Advisory service providers in Bangladesh to understand the challenges faced by farmers due to COVID and the effectiveness of the measures aimed at addressing them. In this blog, Dr. Sekender Ali presents findings from this survey. The environmental impacts of irrigation relate to the changes in quantity and quality of soil and water as a result of irrigation and the effects on natural and social conditions in river basins and downstream of an irrigation impacts stem from the altered hydrological conditions caused by the installation and operation of the irrigation scheme.
Valley Irrigation Pakistan (Private) Limited is also the exclusive representative in Pakistan of Valmont Irrigation’s “Valley” brand of irrigation equipment. Barrages are used as a supply of irrigation to the agricultural land. In Pakistan, there are four Barrages: Sukkur Barrage, Guddu Barrage, Kotri Barrage, and Chashma Barrage are well known. A canal is a basic mean that provides water from the river to agriculture field where it is required. Canals are come out of rivers, dams, and barrages.

Irrigation is the process of applying controlled amounts of water to plants at needed intervals. Irrigation helps to grow agricultural crops, maintain landscapes, and revegetate disturbed soils in dry areas and during periods of less than average rainfall.
Irrigation also has other uses in crop production, including frost protection, suppressing weed growth in grain fields and preventing soil. Lowdermilk, M. K., Freeman, D. and Early, A.

The improvement of surface irrigation performance at field level is currently facing several problems (Berthomé; Tron et al., ; Pereira, ): The variability, in time and in space, of infiltration characteristics is often very important. This induces water runoff and deep percolation in some parts of the field while others are underirrigated.
